Erasmus Staff Week for librarians at the University of Algarve in Portugal

Renata Markauskienė, the Head of Library in the Faculty of Health Care, participated in ERASMUS+ programme in the Staff Week for librarians from June 3-7, 2019, which was organized by the University of Algarve (Faro, Portugal).

The University of Algarve is a public university, with a student population of 8000 and over 700 academics. UAlg receives international students from more than 70 countries. The University offers studies in six academic areas: Arts, Literature and History; Engineering Sciences; Life, Earth, Marine and Environmental Sciences; Medicine and Allied Sciences; Social, Education and Professional Training Sciences; Economics, Management and Tourism.

12 representatives of libraries from Belgium, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland participated in the Staff Week for librarians. Participants presented reports and shared their professional experience, represented their institutions, libraries and essential issues for academic libraries.

The Head of Library in Faculty of Health Care presented the Vilnius University of Applied Sciences, the library, its services, resources, trainings and projects.

During the Staff Week for librarians two University of Algarve campuses (Gambelas and Penha), the University Library, the CIMA Research Center, the Public Library of Tavira and museums were visited. UAlg presented Library structure, mission, services, and user’s trainings, databases, acquisition’s management, institution’s repositories, Open Access and practical advices about Citation management tools.

Participation in the Staff Week at the University of Algarve for librarians was very useful. New experiences and ideas were gained which can be implemented in our Vilnius University of Applied Sciences Library. The important collaboration has been made with UAlg Library representatives and librarians from Latvia, Poland and Brazil.
